they bring to the table. The team has a diverse background
in construction, renovation, home restoration, landscaping,
workplace safety and first-aid, and building maintenance.
For a number of years, Mohawk College has
offered an intensive Residential Building Inspection Program
that educates students about all applicable components of
residential buildings.
The course reviews
footings and foundations, framing, roofing, electrical and
plumbing, heating and cooling systems, and interior in great
detail. The course also teaches students to anticipate
structural and construction problems by using the home’s age
as a benchmark. The ultimate goal of the course is a
thorough understanding of how each component in a home works
together, essentially making the house a system in itself.
The
course also emphasizes the importance of communications
skills, essential in the home inspection industry.
